Now recruiting! A comprehensive case-control investigation of fibromyalgia is underway in Auckland. The FIDGIT Study is examining the relationships between fibromyalgia and associated symptoms, digestive function and the microbiome of the gastrointestinal tract. Additionally, we are collecting data on gene expression, antibodies, oxidative stress, diet and mould exposure. The study does not include any interventions.
Study participants must be at least 18 years of age, female and able to give consent and follow instructions in English. They are required to visit the study site in Auckland on at least one occasion.
Exclusion criteria: smokers, pregnant or breastfeeding, diabetics, co-morbid inflammatory conditions.
A report with baseline data, blood chemistry, REDOX status, oral glucose tolerance, hydrogen-methane breath tests and dietary analysis is provided to each participant at the conclusion of their contributions.

We aim to enrol 100 women with fibromyalgia and at least 50 age- or family-matched controls (as at 31 march 2022 we have enrolled 56 participants and 12 controls. Recruitment is expected to be ongoing until early July 2022.
